No experience needed. No auditions. Just Friday nights, great music, and the joy of folk dance. Your new favorite tradition starts here.
Kartoflanie, "The Potato People" in Polish, is Boise's brand-new Polish and Ukrainian folk dance ensemble. We're on a mission to bring the vibrant traditions of Central and Eastern European dance to the Treasure Valley.
Whether you're Polish, Ukrainian, or simply curious about folk dance, you belong here. We're building something from the ground up: a community rooted in culture, movement, and a whole lot of fun. This is your chance to be part of something from the very beginning.
Folk dance builds strength, coordination, and cardio fitness, all while you're having too much fun to notice. It's the workout that doesn't feel like one.
Walking in alone is normal here. Within weeks, your fellow dancers become friends, family, and your Friday night crew. This is where connections happen.
Every dance tells a story: harvests, courtship, celebration. You'll carry forward traditions that have been danced for centuries across villages and cities alike.
We don't just practice, we perform! Cultural festivals, community events, and showcases give you a chance to share your passion with audiences.
Learning choreography builds new neural pathways. Studies show dance reduces cognitive decline and boosts memory, all while keeping your spirits high.
Polish and Ukrainian folk music is electrifying: driving rhythms, soaring melodies, and energy that makes it impossible to sit still. You'll hear it in your dreams.
7:00 PM. Consistent weekly schedule so you can plan around it.
We rehearse at our partner Ballet Folklorico Mexico Lindo's studio, located at 4214 W Emerald St, Boise, ID 83706. It's a spacious, welcoming space with great energy and a fantastic sprung floor perfect for dancing.
Comfortable clothes you can move in, and clean indoor shoes with smooth soles. That's it!
Your first rehearsal is on us. No commitment, no pressure. Just come see what it's all about.
Absolutely not. We teach everything from scratch. Many of our dancers started with zero experience and discovered a passion they never knew they had.
We welcome adults and teens (16+). Folk dance is for every body type and fitness level. If you can walk, you can dance with us.
Not at all! Our dancers come from all backgrounds. What unites us is a love for dance, culture, and community. Everyone is welcome here.
Please do! Dancing is even more fun with a buddy. But solo arrivals are equally welcome, you'll make friends fast, we promise.
Not yet! We'll provide authentic Polish and Ukrainian folk costumes for performances when the time comes. For rehearsals, just wear comfy clothes.
We'd love to see you weekly, but life happens. Come when you can. The more you come, the more you'll learn and the more fun you'll have.
